What is church music
Older believers must be careful that they talk, I'm told. So i want to first say, yes, there are a few new songs around. The music as well as the words both.
Now without a doubt the way i appear...
Since "established" church has trouble while using old hymnbooks, I sing outside of one most every morning. In private. I adore even the poetry of the songs. I used to be raised in it, so what can I say? There were majesty and beauty and downright sense on the words.
Take this method. I possess never sung it during my life, couldn't whistle the tune merely tried, but while skimming through the particular songbook (Hymns on the Christian Life, 1936! -before even my time), I possess find this song often. I chosen to start a read only. Oh my, I used to be touched over I've been in the month of Sundays from the established place. And that i mean no offense to my home church. I recently have trouble feeling in the home during song-time. Look at these words:
1. Jesus and shall it ever be, a mortal man ashamed of Thee?
Ashamed of Thee Whom angels praise, Whose glories shine through endless days?
2. Ashamed of Jesus! sooner far let evening blush to have a star;
He sheds the beams of light divine o'er this benighted soul of mine.
3. Ashamed of Jesus! that dear Friend on Whom my hopes of heaven depend!
No; while i blush, be this my shame, that we destroy all the revere His Name.
4. Ashamed of Jesus! Yes, I might when I've no guilt to completely clean away,
No tears to wipe, no good to crave, no fears to quell, no soul in order to save.
5. Till then, nor is my boasting vain, till i then boast a Saviour slain;
And O may this my glory be, that Christ is simply not ashamed of me.
OH how wonderful those words of Joseph Grigg. I will only suppose Henry Oliver's tune enhances the sweetness. Because that's how a old songs were, in most cases. Great lyrics, supportive music. Not one other way around.
Here is a suggestion for Mother Church, our bodies on the Lord Himself. Once we so desire novelty for the youth, let's teach them most of these great old songs they've never heard. Directly to them, they shall be new. To us they shall be precious. And we'll all be happy.
Suggestion two, while I'm on the roll. The Church had not been made for the entire world, however for the saints. Allow the Church remain holy and draw all men to Christ with the preached cross. Allow the saints feel at ease within their home. The entire world has its very own.
Did I change this issue...? certainly not. Music that interests the flesh is in the world. Music that effects bodily changes is fleshly. Music that produces me would like to cover my ears is surely an offense. Music that, like alcohol and tobacco, takes some used to has to be eliminated before all ears are polluted and folks is not going to even want to attend a church it does not rock.
