Very Very Nice - Acoustic Research Wireless Headphones Review
The sound quality has always been great relative to other headphones I have tried, and I had no reason to change to another model except for two things. First, the rotary volume control can easily change if you are lying down and make contact against the controls.
The biggest plus for the Sennheiser is construction. The pioneers broke where the yoke holds the individual cans the head strap. Panasonic I think. I wanted to spend the money and get something with better sound and more comfort.
I couldn't find them in Canada so purchased them in the US for $254. The suggested retail in Canada on the Sennheiser site is $499. Another flaw - ALC button (to boost speech range)is located on transmitter only, so you have to walk to it to turn it on if you have a hard time hearing dialogs in movies. This is why I gave it 3 out of 5 for ease of use. I think RS130 is analog sound and RS180 is digital sound. Sound quality is very good and no static background noise. I am so glad I spent the money for these headphones. I have been researching various models and brands and I decided to go with these due to the reviews here on Amazon.
Next to Frankie Goes to Hollywood, I don't think another pop act captures the zeitgeist of the 80's as well. Next I moved on to a Blu ray concert of Hall & Oates Live at the Troubadour.
The sound is excellent in my book. The highs are crisp, the mid-range/speech areas are clear and the bass sounds are very solid but not booming. I wish it were a little heavier because it's hard to turn the base on and off with one hand without pushing it over. The headphones fit easily over the top for storage and charging.
I average around 75 feet before it starts to cut out. However I have extended this range a bit by putting the transmission base as high as I can reach to put the headphones back on the base for recharging.
If these were stolen, I'd buy them again. The only con could be that, although the ear pads are very cushioned, my ears are a bit larger than the inside of the phone pad. The RS180 are a blessing as far as wireless headphones go. If you're an audiophile who demands the absolute best and wants to hear every note of Tchaikovsky, it won't be on these. Setup was fairly easy as there is an Ikea like pictogram (with words in several languages) that show/tell you how to get started. First charge is supposed to be 16 hours; I let them go roughly 24 hours.
