In today's day and age you will hear many types of songs being played in clubs around the world. There's hip hop music, rhythm and blues, jazz, house, techno, and even classical. People love dancing to a variety of different kinds of rhythms and sounds. This article is about the history of Electronica Music and its effects on the industry worldwide.

Different Genres

The term electronica is generally used as an umbrella term to describe multiple genres. It is used for dance clubs, background ambiance, and foreground music. Genres such as Progressive House, techno, drum and bass, ambient, and downtempo all fall under this particular style. This genre was originally started in the late nineteen seventies, but didn't really become very well known until the mid nineteen nineties, where it was being played in several underground and alternative dance clubs.

Crossover Artists

This particular genre has influenced many types of crossover artists. Crossover is a word used to define artists that make a switch from one style to another. Sometimes artists will fuse two or more styles to create a completely original work. An example of this is when someone fuses folk with techno to create something absolutely unique. Electronic sounds formed the basis of pop songs and became crucial in the development of pop and rock within the 1980s.

Underground Electronic Music

Electronica would first appear to define underground genres with a very specific electronic style. Ever since its beginnings, though, it's been used to describe a wide variety of electronic genres that use electronic sounds and synthesizers. Several artists nowadays use song creating techniques found within this style.

World Wide Fans

The creation of this type of sound has spawned millions of fans worldwide. Fans consider their community to be a representation of what is known as electronic dance culture. Originating from acid house styles from Spain, and Psychedelic dance parties from India, raves have become incredibly important to the digital dance culture.

Developments In Technology

This particular genre was developed around modern developments in audio technology. Artists will use many tools such as synthesizers, digital audio workstations, electronic instruments, sequencers, and drum machines. As technology grows, it becomes easier for an artist to make his or her own unique electronic songs within the confines of their personal studio or work space. Artists began to also experiment using computers to play samples and loops to construct songs digitally.

New York's Electronic Scene

During the late parts of the 1990s, people would flock to New York city to become a part of the electronic scene. DJs and producers began playing their music in nightclubs and raves. People from Tokyo, Hong Kong, France, and Brazil would eventually come to try and find their space within the electronic community. New York would eventually become the premiere destination for electronic artists to go and find success.
